Amsterdam's Fine & Rare Book Fair opens at the city's historic Zuiderkerk church on September 27, running through September 28.
Organised by the Nederlandsche Vereeniging van Antiquaren (Dutch Association of Antiquarian Booksellers), more than 40 dealers from around Europe will offer a range of rare books, manuscripts, prints, maps, and photographs.
A special exhibition will commemorate the 120th anniversary of Gerrit Achterberg (1905–1962), one of the Netherlands’ most celebrated and controversial poets, including a selection of his manuscripts, photographs, first editions, and other related ephemera.
Other highlights include:
- the award ceremony of the annual Young Book Collector’s Prize 2025 for collectors under 35 (first prize €1,000)
- a session identifying book repairs
- demonstrations by master bookbinders with a talk by Edwin Bloemsaat on The Art of Bookbindings
- lectures including Reinder Storm on his new book City of Water and Light – Amsterdam, a history in maps; f ormer curator of the Royal Library Marieke van Delft on the book Nederlandsche vogelen (Dutch Birds) by Cornelis Nozeman and Christiaan Sepp, the first Dutch bird book; and poet and collector of popular printed matter Arie van den Berg on street ballads, songbooks, and prints
