More than 140 photos taken by the man who shovelled coal on the Hogwarts Express come to auction tomorrow at Hansons Auctioneers.

The pictures of the cast and actors on set, as well as during the launch party of the DVD of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone held on Platform 9¾ of Kings Cross Station in London in 2002, are the work of retired railway worker Graham Wood from Derbyshire who volunteered as a boilerman on the locomotive.

“I was in the background every time the famous locomotive made an appearance," said Mr Wood who worked as a fireman for British Rail. "While cameras were banned on set it was more a rule for the paparazzi than personal use and as time went by it became more relaxed. The cast with an interest in steam trains like Mark Williams [Mr Weasley] would come down to the footplate for a chat.”

The archive - which also includes call sheets signed Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, a goodie bag from the party, and a burgundy cap worn in the film by Frank Santrian the driver of the Hogwarts Express -  has an estimate of £2,000-£3,000.
